User Interface Sneak Peek

February 25th, 2010 by Jarett

From the very start, I knew it would be difficult to create the kind of experience I imagined for this game. I want the user to feel like they’re holding an entirely different device in their hands while they’re playing. The game shouldn’t feel like it’s just a mobile phone application; it should feel like it’s a device all of its own. This meant displaying the application in fullscreen mode and recreating most of the main UI: title bar, clock, battery and network indicators, that kind of thing. The image is an actual (non-final!) screenshot of the game’s main launcher screen, complete with functioning status icons and launcher buttons. There are still tweaks that need to be made to it for sure, but I’ve hit about where I had hoped to with the UI.

Quite a bit more work has gone into the game than UI building and theming already, but this is one place where the progress can be easily seen at a glance. Any thoughts on the look so far?

Ceci N’est Pas Une Blog

This is not a blog.

And I’m definitely not a blogger.

The purpose of this blog is to be a development journal, a place to post my work progress for all two of you reading this to see. I intend for Flora Vs. Fauna to grow and live, so think of this as a kind of baby book. As development progresses and the game is released, it will be a place to see news, upcoming events, updates, and other fun stuff, as well as a place for a little bit of light feedback. If discussion gets a little heavier I’ll add a forum too, but right now I’m only talking to myself so it’s not really needed.

But seriously. This isn’t a blog.
